Near Folio, The Works of Shakspere, Imperial Edition, Charles Knight, Virtue & Company, 1824

Beautiful, very large edition of William Shakespeare's complete works in 4 volumes. Illustrated throughout with 57, finely detailed, steel plate engravings on heavy stock paper. One of the most lavishly illustrated of the 19th century Shakespeare editions and one that is very rare, especially in this condition.

In 2 parts with 2 volumes to each part.

Some scuffs, cracks and light flaking to leather binding and more moderate wear to edges and corners. Spine ends are more delicate and show small losses to leather. Covers are smudged and stained with uneven coloring to leather and cloth. Inscriptions on early blank page. Covers are all attached and binding tight except for one small section of one volume that is loose as shown in pictures. Linen tape on inside front hinges- text block is firmly attached but I believe this tape was added for extra stability as the text block is extremely heavy. Occasional spot or smudge but pages otherwise clean and unmarked.
