Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, bound in green cloth with gilt cover and spine. Illustrated with tipped-in color plates by Arthur Rackham. It is considered Rackham's finest work. Undated but published in 1912.
"You must see for yourselves that it will be difficult to follow Peter Pan's adventures unless you are familiar with the Kensington Gardens. They are in London, where the King lives, and I used to take David there nearly every day unless he was looking decidedly flushed. No child has ever been in the whole of the Gardens, because it is so soon time to turn back. The reason it is soon time to turn back is that, if you are as small as David, you sleep from twelve to one."
All plates, protective tissue guards and pages present.
Light wear to edges of covers and spine with some fraying and at bottom edge and corners. Covers a bit warped/curving a bit outward. Spine tanned. Some white discolorations, mainly around bottom edge of covers. Beautiful, fairly bright, gilt decorations on cover and spine. Pages have occasional light foxing but are otherwise unmarked. Back endpapers damaged around hinge as viewable in second to last picture.
One of the most beautiful of Arthur Rackham's books.
